2018-19 Executive Board and Leadership Team
I knew when I began my college career at Christopher Newport University, I wanted to become involved with student government. My freshman year, I applied to be a delegate in the Student Assembly. At the end of the year, I decided to run for Vice President of Marketing & Communications, as a way to help out the student body and expand on my marketing skills. I spent the summer developing a marketing plan for the organization, creating ways to seek input from the campus. I created new promotional brochures and handouts to promote the assembly’s small grant and conference fund, as well as a leadership binder, containing resources for delegates to use. Throughout the academic year, I revamped the social media platforms used by the assembly, growing its following by over 100. I worked to create fresh content for social media, posting regularly to promote campus events, surveys, and other Student Assembly-sponsored activities.
During my junior year, I was voted President of the Student Assembly. In my role, I serve as the primary representative of the student body. I serve as the student representative on the Christopher Newport University Board of Visitors, the President’s Council on Diversity and Inclusion, the Free Speech Committee, and the Wellness Action Team for Captain’s Health (WATCH). I have worked with many administrators, including the Dean of Students, Title IX, and more. During my term, I assisted in restarting town hall meetings as a partnership with the Residence Hall Association (RHA) as a way to seek student feedback. I assisted in planning the 5th annual Light the Night, which was attended by over 3,000 students and featured many student organizations. I also oversaw the implementation of several projects and committees, including the newly-established Community Outreach and Sustainability Commissions, installing a makeshift walkway across from Rappahannock River Hall, and more.
